Brian Brookman (Chair)

Brian Brookman, formerly the Chief Scientific Officer for LGC’s global proficiency testing (PT) business, and now working as an independent consultant on PT, has over forty-five years’ experience in analytical science, the past thirty years in the field of analytical quality, particularly concerned with PT. He has been involved, around the world, in various training and consultative projects concerned with developing PT and the accreditation of PT providers.
Brian is very active at the national, European and international level with respect to the development and harmonisation of good practice in PT. He is currently Chair of the ILAC Accreditation Issues Committee 17043 Working Group, Chair of the Eurachem PT Working Group, Chair of the EA-Eurolab-Eurachem (EEE) Joint Working Group on PT in Accreditation and Chair of the UK Working Group on PT. He was an ILAC liaison on the ISO/CASCO Working Group that revised ISO/IEC 17043, and is an ILAC liaison on the ISO Committee responsible for the development of ISO 13528.

Lucy Eden has been Head of Quality for LGC’s global AXIO proficiency testing service for 5 years, having worked in the pharmaceutical, industrial chemical and vaping sectors for over 12 years prior to that. At LGC, she has responsibility for maintaining their accreditation to ISO/IEC 17043 and ISO 17034. Lucy is the secretariate for the EA-Eurolab-Eurachem (EEE) Joint Working Group on PT in Accreditation and an active member of the UK Working Group on PT.

Csilla BÉLAVÁRI has been the coordinating the QualcoDuna proficiency testing program and various interlaboratory comparison projects for over two decades. She obtained and MSc and PhD in analytical chemistry from Eotvos Lorand University as well as an MSc in Environmental Assessment from the University of Norwich. She has been active in the field of environmental and water proficiency testing since 2004. Csilla is a member of the Technical Committee „Calibration and Proficiency Testing” of the National Accreditation Authority in Hungary and the Eurachem Proficiency Testing Working Group and now works as a consultant.

Owen Butler is a Principal Scientist at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK regulator for health and safety at work. An analytical chemist by training wherein his main role is the provision of air measurement advice and services to HSE colleagues and other stakeholders. Development of new and revised air measurement methods under the auspices of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is another key endeavour. He is a long-standing member of the Eurachem Proficiency Testing (PT) Working Group and has been involved in PT activities relating to air pollution monitoring for over 25 years.

Monika Horsky is a Chemistry graduate from the University of Vienna. After five years in an academic laboratory, she is currently working as an analytical chemist and quality manager at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) laboratories located in Austria. She is involved in organization and statistical evaluation of IAEA’s proficiency testing exercises with a focus on trace elements and long-lived radionuclides in terrestrial environmental samples. As a quality manager, she is supporting IAEA’s reference material production activities and ISO 17034 accreditation. As a technical officer she supports IAEA technical cooperation projects aimed at building the capacity of environmental laboratories, with a particular emphasis on laboratory quality assurance. Monika joined the Eurachem PT working group in 2017.

Riitta Koivikko works in the field of analytical quality, particularly in environmental measurements. With over ten years of experience in proficiency testing, she serves as a proficiency testing coordinator and senior specialist at Proftest Syke within the Finnish Environment Institute. Riitta is also actively involved in various international cooperation projects, focusing on the quality of results of environmental laboratories. She holds a PhD in Chemistry and has previously worked at the University of Turku (Finland), the Alfred-Wegener Institute (Germany), and the Joint Research Center (Italy).

With a technical education in biology and a graduate of the Ecole Supérieure de Gestion de Paris, C. LAURENT held the position of General Manager for 10 years within a software publishing group for medical biology laboratories. Her overall professional background combines both technical responsibilities and business development. The medical environment being a highly regulated sector, she is particularly familiar with standardization and quality processes in general. With a strong service culture and experienced in managing multidisciplinary teams, C. LAURENT, as Director of BIPEA since 2013, she aims at pursuing Proficiency testings & associated services’ development and progress.

Marzia Mancin is a Lead Statistician at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe), where she provides statistical consulting and develops methodologies for national and international projects in the field of food safety and veterinary public health. With over 20 years of experience, she has been deeply involved in the design, implementation, and evaluation of proficiency testing (PT) schemes.
Her work focuses on statistical methods for laboratory quality control, and she serves as the statistical lead for both international PT schemes (FAO and WOAH) and national programmes (AQUA). Marzia is a technical expert for ISO/IEC 17043 and ISO 13528 for Accredia, and a member of the ISO/TC 69 Technical Committee and the Eurachem Proficiency Testing Working Group. She has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in scientific dissemination and professional training.

Asya Manoylova has a Master’s degree in analytical chemistry and is a last year PhD student in Sustainable soil management with carbon farming. Asya has more than 18 years’ experience in analytical science, the past 15 years in the field of analytical quality, particularly concerned with proficiency testing. At the moment is Head of a Proficiency Testing Provider at “Interproject” LTD - the largest PT provider in Bulgaria and organizes PTs in the field of chemistry for laboratories in Bulgaria and across.
As a certified auditor, Asya has been involved in various training and consultative projects concerned with laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189 and conducts internal audits and supplier audits. After completing a Mediator Training Course the desired result of her work is helping laboratories to meet recognized standards of performance and competence. Asya is improving her knowledge with continuing education and experience.
Asya is an active member and translator of three technical committees for standardization at Bulgarian Institute for Standardization (BDS/TC) TC-34 “Quality management and conformity assessment”, ТC-28 “General metrology” and TC-67 “Petroleum products and lubricants”.
She has attended Bulgarian and international scientific events and co-authored papers and posters in a diverse range of analytical fields.

Raquel Múrtula Corbí is a Pharmacist and expert in microbiology in the environmental field for more than 20 years. As technical manager of the microbiology department in ielab, since 2007 she is focused on the development, certification and commercialization of microbiological reference material. She is also in charge of the management of microbiological proficiency testing schemes. Raquel is member of Eurachem-PT and EEE-PT working groups since 2015, author or coauthor of 15 scientific publications and participant of several conferences.

Angela Sorbo, who graduated cum laude in Chemistry, is a senior scientist at the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS), Department of Food Safety, Nutrition and Veterinary Public Health (SANV), in Rome Her expertise includes analytical chemistry, proficiency testing for trace elements in food, and food safety, with a particular focus on environmental and industrial contaminants.
She currently serves as the Operational Manager of the SANV-ISS Functional Unit for Proficiency Testing, accredited according to ISO/IEC 17043 with flexible scope. Angela is the Director of the Italian National Reference Laboratory for Metals and Nitrogenous Compounds in Food and she also coordinates the activities of the Italian laboratories responsible for official analyses of processing contaminants in food.
Angela plays an active role in institutional activities related to official food control. She serves as a technical consultant to the Italian Ministry of Health on matters involving metals and processing contaminants. Her responsibilities include contributing to the development of national control and monitoring plans, evaluating the quality of monitoring data, and assessing human exposure to chemical contaminants within her field of expertise.
She represents the Italian Competent Authority as a national delegate to the European Commission’s Working Group on Environmental and Industrial Contaminants in Food (DG SANTE). Additionally, she is a member of CEN/TC 275 WG 10, which focuses on horizontal analytical methods for the determination of elements and their chemical species in food.

In 1981 graduated with specialization, analytical chemistry. After five and a half years at the laboratory of the Ministry of Finance (Amsterdam), he started working at TNO-Nutrition in Zeist in 1987 where he was employed in various analytical chemical and technological positions. Due to its strong affinity with statistics and his increasing role in proficiency testing, he became project manager proficiency testing at TNO-Quality of Life in Zeist in 2006.In 2008 he became project manager proficiency testing for DUCARES B.V., an independent and autonomous TNO company and a leading research and contract laboratory. In 2019 he is appointed as senior scientist at Trilogy Europe B.V., established in Arnhem the Netherlands. Since December 2023 as senior product specialist at Qlip, a quality assurance company in dairy, Zutphen the Netherlands
He is specialized in proficiency testing, reference material, QC, statistics, analysis, auditing and consultancy, but also experienced in giving lectures, active in various NEN working groups and is a member of the Eurachem PT and RM working group.
